Despite the current economic climate 2010 has been another busy year for Foundations Archaeology in both Consultancy and Contracting. A selection of our most exciting and high profile projects are detailed below:

Project Work

55-56 St Mary's Butts for the Oxford Diocesan Board of Finance. Consultancy role including the preparation of a desk-based assessment and negotiation of a mitigation strategy and the initial elements of a programme of excavation and watching brief

Former Prefabricated Building sites, Bristol on behalf of Bovis Homes (South West). Consultancy role including preparation of desk-based assessments and negotiation of evaluation and mitigation requirements for the construction of new residential developments on sites of the last remaining 1940's prefabricated building sites within Bristol. Fieldwork has included programmes of evaluation and watching briefs, as well as excavation of post-medieval structural complexes at Tarnock Avenue, Snowberry Walk and Blackswarth Road, St. Georges; all of which are now in post-excavation.Watching briefs are continuing at Dorian Road, Latimer Close and Ashton Gate.

Holman's No. 3 Works, Trevu Road, Camborne for Coastline Housing Association. A watching brief is currently being carried out at the above site, following on from a programme of photographic and building recording at this important industrial site.

Rowner, Gosport, Hampshire for Taylor Wimpey. A programme of evaluation and excavation recealed further elements of the Saxon settlement, but unexpectedly also revealed traces of Roman occupation. The site is now in post-excavation.

Churston Court, Brixham for Mr Richard Haddock. A large-scale programme of intensive field-walking was undertaken across several fields at the site and revealed a significant assemblage of worked flint. Areas of the site are now being assessed using strip, map and sample excavation.

Cross Keys, St. George's Road, Wallingford for the Brakspear Pub Company. A desk-based assessment has highlighted the potential impact on the setting of the town defences and for a Saxon or medieval ditch to run beneath the site.

Guest & Chrimes and Gloystarne Works, Don Street, Rotherham for Signet Planning. An ES Cultural Heritage chapter has drawn together and synthesised a number of disparate pieces of archaeological work and has made an impact assessment and recommendation for further works.

Amen Corner, Bracknell for Nike Design. This large area is currenly being assessed through desk-based assessment, which will be supplemented through monitoring of geo-technical test-pits, to define it's archaeological potential and help develop further investigative schemes.

Hawton Road, Hawton for Waterman EED. Archaeological investigations in advance of flood alleviation works have identified a complex sequence of Roman, medieval and post-medieval features.

Many other evaluations, excavations and watching briefs have also taken place for a number of disparate clients from private house owners, to utility companies and major housebuilders.
