Evaluation

Archaeological evaluation typically consists of fieldwork which determines the presence/absence of archaeological features, structures, deposits or finds within a targeted area. This is usually achieved through the excavation of one or more evaluation trenches. Where archaeological remains are identified, the evaluation endeavours to define their character, extent, quality and preservation in order to allow an assessment of their value and inform any further phases of work. A suitable report and archive will be produced at the end of the works.

Foundations Archaeology undertake hundreds of kilometres of evaluation trenching each year on a variety of sites across the UK.
