Watching brief

An archaeological watching brief comprises a defined programme of observation and investigation conducted during groundworks or other activity on a site where the possibility exists that archaeological deposits may be disturbed or destroyed. This will typically involve an archaeologist being present on-site during groundworks associated with construction or landscaping in order to record any exposed archaeology.

Each year, Foundations Archaeology undertake a large number of watching briefs of all sizes, from large scale solar farms and supermarket developments to conservatory and housing extensions.
